Are you going green, red, magenta, purple, orange, etc? Consider this, while those fashion colors are very freakin’ cool, be aware of the maintenance involved. For example, Ariana Grande (Cat) had a personal stylist on the set who refreshed her color for every episode of “Victorious” and “Sam and Cat”. Don’t you wish you had that? And how about Katy Perry? We highly doubt she’s in her bathroom getting blue or purple semi-permanant dye all over her bathroom sink and her hands. And last but not least Hayley Williams. Even though orange is the new black, semi-permanant color does fade and it doesn’t look pretty. It looks, well, faded. It’s vibrancy will fade within 3-4 shampoos. And, if your decolorized before you colored it, it will fade to the undertone. FYI, if your undertone was yellowish and you put blue color on; what color do you think it will fade out too? Hint yellow + blue=??? Here are some suggestions to maintain the “Fashion Color” and protect your hair.
- Seal the deal. We use Redken Shades Eq Clear ($30+ in most salons) to seal any fashion color. Shades Eq Clear seals the color and helps it last longer. It acts as a conditioner and adds high shine. You color will still fade, but at least you’ll get 2 weeks(depending on shampoo and number of times you shampoo) of crazy color.
- Condition, Condition, Condition. After you color your hair and get a Shades Eq Clear
Treatment, ask for a Redken Chemistry Treatment service ($15-$20 in most salons). Chemistry Treatments are customizable and it will close the cuticle, add shine and lock the color in
- Don’t shampoo your hair everyday. Shampoo once a week with a Sulfate Free Shampoo like Redken Color Magnetics.
- Did you say ewww to #3. Then use Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry 2 Day Extender Oil Absorbing Dry Shampoo.
There you go. Fashion Color is cool but, its a lot of work. That’s why it’s better to have a professional stylist do it for you. If you have any questions about fashion color, see your stylist or call Glam Hair Studio.
