4 Things You Can Do For Your Hair Now
Soon vacation time will be over. School will be back in session and we’ll be thinking about the Fall. You’ve been out in the sun, swimming or at the beach. That can take a toll on your hair, especially if you haven’t been caring for your hair. Some of the complaints we get are “my hair is dry and frizzy”, “my kid has green hair”, “I wish I had more shine” and “my hair is dull”. Here’s a list of 4 things you can do to heal your hair.
Get a haircut. Sounds obvious, right? But anything after 8 weeks is not good for your hair. Your hair grows ½” to 1” a month. Your hair is mainly made of keratin, proteins, water and few other interesting elements. When your hair is robbed of moisture or proteins, the keratin in your hair breaks down leaving split ends. If your split ends are not cut off, they will keep splitting up the hair shaft leaving you with fly-a-ways. In 8 weeks your hair may have grown 1” to 2” and we need to clip off 1/2”
to keep it healthy. “But I’m growing my hair”, you may say. For long hair, the maximum time between hair cuts is 10 weeks. That will give you 2.5″ of hair.
Removing 1/2″-1″ of hair will still keep you on the path to a longer length. You can always get a few rows of hair extensions if you really need length now or use Redken Extreme Length with Biotin. See your stylist for more details.
Get a gloss. A gloss can add shine that lasts up to 6 weeks depending on how much you shampoo your hair. We can add some color to a gloss to balance out the tone of your hair color. We can also do a clear gloss just for shine. You can remove unwanted brassiness caused by the sun. You can even change the tone of your highlights from cooler to warmer or warmer to cooler. Consult with your stylist.
Detox. If the copper or other metals in pool water are not
controlled, your hair can turn green. Chlorine makes your hair color fade and dries your hair out. If your pool water has a salt water filter or you’ll be at the beach, make sure you spray One United in your hair to help keep moisture locked in. If there is iron in your home water, you’ll see red or orange(brassy). As these metals oxidize they can deposit into porous hair. We can Detox your hair with our Detoxing Conditioning treatment by pulling out the unwanted metals and product buildup. Then condition the hair to balance out the pH. This service takes 10 Minutes.
Keratin replacement. Hair at your scalp is softer and more
pliable. Hair 1” out to the ends is a little harder because the keratin
solidifies. As time goes by with sun exposure, blow drying, and swimming, your keratin
breaks down exposing your cuticle. This causes the hair to lose moisture and
shine. A keratin service replaces the keratin restoring the hairs natural shine.
This service takes 2 to 3 hours and lasts up to 3 months. See your stylist for
