HAIR SCIENCE 101
What does pool water, well water exposure, hard water & hair product build-up do to your hair? Copper Sulfate used in some pool chemicals for sanitizing/Algae control can make your blonde green and browns muddy. How? When copper oxidizes it turns green. That oxidized copper gets in the hair shaft and stays. Use Sanitizer/ Algae control that do not contain Copper Sulfate. Too much Chlorine in a pool fades your color exposing brassy tones on brunettes and makes blondes yellow-er and over-processed. If the pool smells like Chlorine, wet your head with tap water before you take the plunge. Be sure to rinse your hair with tap water when you’re done. If your pool’s pH is too alkaline (7.5pH or higher). It can open your hair’s cuticle exposing it free radicals and damage. Lower the pool’s pH Should be between 6 or 7ph. Get your pool water tested and adjust the levels.
Well water and Hard Water may contain higher levels of iron, calcium or lime. When iron oxidizes it turn orange-red which ruins blondes and makes brunettes appear warmer. If your tub, toilets or sinks have red stains, you’ve got iron in your water. You know that crusty white stuff that buildups on your sink, tubs or the toilet? That’s calcium. Calcium is a magnet to over-processed dry hair. Calcium weighs your hair down leaving if flat and dull. Get your water tested and use a whole house filter or a shower filter.
Some styling products may leave behind build-up. The usual culprits are silicone, dimethicone or panthenol making your hair flat and dull too. Read the label. Ingredients are listed by weigh. For instance if silicone is listed closer to the beginning of the list of ingredients, there is a chance there is more of it in the product. If it’s listed towards the end of the list there’s less. Remember that boring Science 101 class?
So how do you remove all these chemicals, buildup and mineral deposits from your hair? In-salon treatments remove and clarify. ClarpHx Treatment is a gentle conditioning treatment containing a unique, sarcosine amino acid that acts as a chelating agent to remove harsh minerals such as iron, calcium, copper, and manganese deposited by hard water. It further purifies pool chemicals, medications, and residue build-up. Aloe Vera's natural enzymes help rejuvenate the hair and restore the pH balance of the scalp, while stimulating the production of moisturizing lipids. This entire system clarifies the hair while nourishing each strand, leaving it healthy and shiny. ClarpHx Treatment has a pH range of 3.5-5.5.
MicropHusion is a renewing treatment formulated with precise levels of
proteins and Keratin Amino Acids to refortify stressed hair, instantly restoring
the hair's elasticity and creating an optimum pH for ultimate tensile strength.
A complex blend of antioxidants creates resilience from breakage caused by
the oxidative effect of free radicals. The hair is instantly renewed with
strength, softness and hydration.
Enough geeky stuff. Resume your summer!
