Why is my hair green after swimming in the pool?

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Hey blondes, did you ever notice a green tint to your hair after swimming? It's NOT the Chlorine. Well sort of. It maybe the sanitizer (shock). Chlorine will bleach your hair. However, some sanitizers/shock use copper as away to prevent algae. When copper oxidizes it will turn green. That oxidation process enters your porous hair strand and creates the green hue. Ask your pool person to use a copper free sanitizer. Going to a public pool? Wet your hair prior to entering the pool, this will act as a barrier from any chemicals entering you hair. You can shampoo with Davines SU or Solu after swimming. Davines Su and Solu have clarifiers and UV filters to protect your hair after your fun in the sun.
